Screw Post Tips and Tricks
Making Holes for Screw Posts:
For most uses, you should make the hole slightly larger than the post. A 1/4 inch hole
is recommended for most applications of aluminum screw posts. The posts will be slightly smaller than this hole, which makes
inserting the posts easier. It also allows the pages of the document to spread, making the inside pages of your document easier to read.
You can punch the holes if you only have a small number to do. Use a
single-hole punch for swatches, samples, and similar materials.
A three-hole punch makes larger sheets of paper easier to punch.
Use a paper drill if you need to put holes in a large number of sheets
of paper, or stacks of cover stock, foam core, and similar materials. A drill is also much less effort to use.
Use a high-quality leather punch for leather. For holes in wood, metal, plastics, etc., use a drill press with a bit suited to
the material.
Securing Screw Posts:
Finger tight will be sufficient for most screw post applications.
If you need more, a screwdriver or coin in the slot can be used to good effect.
Make certain that the screw is tight against the post and not the material you are binding.
Some people suggest a drop of thread lock or adhesive for more durable applications. Be very certain that you want the
connection to be permanent if you do this.
